I was born in the university city of Uppsala into a literary and musical family. I studied Russian, Polish and Lithuanian at both Uppsala and Stockholm universities, as well as Russian in Paris. Besides this I had a year’s study of both Polish and Lithuanian in Poland in 1988 to 1989. As well as these languages I have English and French and am also starting on Italian. Language, music and poetry have been the leitmotifs of my life.
My studies in Lithuanian led to a short yet intensive career in translation in which I gained, in 1998, the Lithuanian translation prize for my interpretations of Lithuanian poetry to Swedish. Song has always been part of my life, in all forms and genres. In my early twenties I used to perform my mother’s songs as well as Russian lyrics, amongst other things.
I moved to Scotland the first time in 1989 and after some years in Sweden returned here in late 2000. Since then I have been living here with my Scottish husband and our two daughters.
Here, my musical life has been centred around musicals and shows, and I have also done some solo performances. Musical life in Scotland is both alive and very inspiring. This is my first CD, a tribute to my mother and her creativity, both of which have been of inspiration to me throughout my life.
